“Your gifts evangelize where you may not be able to go.”
The Adventist Youth Society (AYS) of the Greensboro Seventh-Day Adventist church
has seen the need to adopt a special international church building
project and is soliciting your kind financial support. We hope that after
reading through this brief description of the project your heart will be
touched as ours
did.
The project is located in the Inter-American Division of Seventh-Day Adventists
in the Caribbean country of Jamaica. The specific name of the church is
Berkshire Seventh-day Adventist.
Though There Are Dozens of Reasons Why You May Want To Contribute To This
Special International Church Building Project, Here Are Eight (8) Reasons Why
We Asked You To Contribute
1. The church, as it is now, has no Sabbath school classrooms. Classes are held
outside (except for one class) and in times of bad weather service becomes
somewhat chaotic with all classes going on simultaneous inside.
2. There are no vestries or place to store sacred objects such as communion
vessels. Everything is kept inside the sanctuary.
3. Breastfeeding mothers and mothers with young children are forced to attend to
their children outside in the open public. This causes nursing mothers to
choose not to attend church at times or not to attend church at all until their
children are weaned.
4. The church has only one outhouse (a 5ft by 5ft zinc shed) as restroom for
both males and females with no washbasins. A modern restroom facility is
urgently needed.
5. Pot-luck and other fellowship events are held outside. Members and visitors
sit on stones outside and eat. Whenever it rains, everyone rushes inside the
sanctuary with all the food, pots and pans; there they eat, drink, laugh and
talk. The condition of the sanctuary afterward is not one that God is always
pleased with.
6. The church currently has less than one-quarter the amount of furniture it
needs. Many pews have no support for the back.
7. The church greatly needs an office from which to handle its affairs.
8. The Seventh-day Adventist church is the only church in the vicinity without
classrooms, proper restroom facilities, vestry, office or mothers’ nursing room. Sad to say, people are turned off at times when they visit the
church; many never visit again. The members try hard to make progress in the church but even giving their all is
way short.
Here Are Pictures Of The Church As It Is Now, As Well As The Finish Product:
The overall aim of this project is to build:
• 3 Sabbath school classrooms
• a vestry
• a fellowship hall
• a modern restroom facility
• an office
• a mothers’ nursing room
• a kitchen
• a miscellaneous storeroom
With your help, this can be achieved.
If your contribution is by check, please make it payable to:
